1. Respect and Inclusion

1.1 Treat everyone — students, teachers, staff and guests — with courtesy and respect.

1.2 Discrimination, harassment or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.

1.3 Everyone has the right to feel comfortable and included, both in class and on the social dance floor.

2. Boundaries and Partnerwork

2.1 Partner dance naturally involves physical contact. Respect for personal space, communication and awareness of comfort levels are part of good social dancing.

2.2 Anyone may decline or stop a dance at any time without explanation - this should always be respected gracefully.

2.3 Teachers may step in if they observe behaviour that feels unsafe or makes others uncomfortable, to ensure everyone feels secure and welcome.

3. Professional and Social Conduct (Teachers and Assistants)

3.1 Teachers and assistants are expected to act with integrity and good judgement in both teaching and social settings.

3.2 Alchemy Dance Company recognises that the dance scene is inherently social and that friendships may develop naturally between teachers and students.

3.3 What matters is that all interactions remain respectful, consensual and free from any abuse of trust or authority.

3.4 Team members are encouraged to maintain clear communication and awareness in all interactions, whether during class, events or social dancing.

4. Conduct During Classes and Events

4.1 Arrive on time, be ready to learn and follow the teacher’s guidance.

4.2 Allow the teachers to teach - please avoid instructing, correcting or “teaching” fellow students during class or social dancing. Everyone learns best when feedback comes from the teaching team.

4.3 Treat all fellow dancers with encouragement, not criticism. Negative comments or unsolicited corrections can make others uncomfortable and are not acceptable.

4.4 Maintain good personal hygiene. Please ensure you arrive fresh and clean, wear deodorant, and bring a spare top or towel if you tend to get warm while dancing.

4.5 Wear suitable, clean clothing and shoes appropriate for dance.

4.6 Look after your partners — dance with care, avoid excessive force or risky movements, and stay aware of the space around you.

4.7 Refrain from disruptive or inappropriate behaviour at any time.

4.8 Alcohol should be consumed responsibly at social events, and intoxicated behaviour is not permitted on the dance floor.

5. Digital and Online Conduct

5.1 Treat others with the same respect online as you would in person.

5.2 Do not post or share class content, recordings or photographs without consent.

5.3 Maintain a positive and supportive tone in online groups or discussions.

6. Addressing Concerns

6.1 Concerns or incidents can be raised confidentially with Marchant or Davina.

6.2 Issues will be handled discreetly, fairly and proportionately.

6.3 Depending on the situation, this may involve an informal discussion, a warning, or, in rare cases, suspension from classes or events.
